Mewing Tongue Posture: How to Mew

YouTubers around the globe who have made mewing videos are giving tips on how to mew correctly. Their followers are interested in one of three things:

  1. How to Mew?
  2. What’s the mewing tongue posture?
  3. How do we condition ourselves as it’s not natural for us?

Disclaimer

Mewing is relatively a new concept. Though sufficient amount of research has been carried out, one cannot really claim about the effectiveness. Prof. John & Mike Mew have shared scientific analysis on why mewing transformation takes place, if you want to learn the science behind it then you can follow their channel called Orthotropics on YouTube or you can read it here: Mewing & Orthotropy

If you still aren’t aware of mewing, you can learn all about it over here: Mewing Guide. This blog post is different from the usual mewing posts that we do. It focuses more on the casual side than the scientific one. Instead of using the mewing formula, we are going to make the mewing tongue posture easy to understand for you.

What is mewing in under 30 seconds?

  1. Pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth
  2. Developing a habit so you follow the pattern even in a subconscious state

Why does Mewing Tongue Posture work?

The idea here is that maxilla i.e. the roof of your mouth is quite malleable. Thus, by creating tension through tongue, you can change its shape.  Well, you may wonder how is that possible? It’s that persistent tension created by the tongue which makes it happen.

Numerous studies by Dr. Mew suggests, that it is possible to change your facial structure through correct mewing tongue posture. Let’s stop here and try a practical assessment. Start with standing in front of your mirror or switching on your front camera. Notice yourself in a normal state or click a selfie with your tongue resting normally.

Now start mewing and feel the firmness in your facial structure. Instantaneously, you will experience your face lifting and jaws getting sharp. This is a good way to start your mewing journey. Now imagine if this becomes your regular tongue position, you’ll not only be having a jawline but over time your entire facial structure would improve.

Can chewing gum help in mewing?

Yes, there are two ways. First is by using gum assistance to help you achieve a proper mewing tongue posture. Second is the psychological conditioning. If you find it relatively hard to keep up with the tongue posture, using a chewing gum at the start with help you considerably in achieving the ideal mewing tongue posture.

What’s the correct Mewing Tongue Posture?

Flatten your tongue straight against your mouth. I feel that the correct mewing tongue posture is easily achievable. Creating vacuum works better when you flatten your tongue against the roof of your mouth.

Role of teeth in Mewing Tongue Posture

While most of the mewers are constantly emphasizing on the tongue posture, the role of teeth is being downplayed. Placement of your teeth is crucial for changing the structure. It is not just the tongue and palate alone, it’s teeth which basically provides the framework for a solid facial uplift. If the teeth (i.e. your molars) aren’t aligned well, mewing will be quite difficult.

For the past couple of months, a lot of people have asked me on Instagram and Facebook whether Chisell is worth the money? It’s too expensive. Well, I’d simply say that if you can spend thousands of dollars on procedures such as facelift, plastic surgery, and chin augmentation, why not $35? It won’t have a negative impact on your facial structure in the short-run or long-run. It’ll help you to work your masseters without causing any harm.

Conclusion

Often times, starting turns out to be the most challenging part. And for that reason, you can take some positives from these incredible mewing transformations to get going. Be patient and practice a lot until it becomes a habit. Do not stress much & know that visible results will come over time.

    • Hi Shoaib, you can mew even with slightly narrower palette. The back portion of your tongue should touch the palette and your entire tongue should stay touched to the roof of your mouth. Start by placing the back portion first.
